BuiltTally calculation approach

No black boxes.
Just useful math.

Every result should be understandable, checkable, and honest about what can vary in the real world.

How the system works

From measurement
to order quantity.

BuiltTally separates geometric requirements from optional purchasing estimates so users can see where every number comes from.

01
Measure

Inputs stay in the unit system you choose. Conversions retain more precision than the interface displays.

02
Calculate

The underlying geometry is calculated before density, waste, or supplier rounding is applied.

03
Adjust

Where available, optional extra and entered material properties produce planning quantities. Some calculators are pure geometry.

04
Recommend

Where supported, purchasing estimates round upward using entered supplier increments or whole-unit quantities. They do not prescribe selling terms.

THE BUILTTALLY CALCULATION CHAIN
Measured geometryL × W × D→Optional extraUser allowance→Material mass, where availableVolume × entered density→Optional purchasingEntered supplier terms
Assumptions, stated plainly

Where judgment enters the calculation

01Material density

Density is optional user input in tools that estimate weight. Use supplier, product or project information. Grading, moisture and material condition affect bulk density; no universal material value is supplied.

02Waste & compaction

Defaults vary by calculator. Optional extra is shown separately and is not a universal compaction allowance. Many material and commercial assumptions start blank; use your project's inputs.

03Exact vs recommended

The unrounded geometric requirement remains separate from optional allowance, material properties and purchasing rounding, where applicable. Volume × entered density gives estimated mass. Supplier increments never change the original geometry.

04Imperial & metric

Both systems use the same calculation model. Values are converted at full precision before display rounding.

05Building codes

Geometry tools do not replace local code review. Stairs, roofs, and structural work require field verification and applicable approvals.

06Sources & review

All fifteen calculators have automated arithmetic and browser checks. Software testing does not constitute external professional verification. Material properties and manufacturer coverage, when needed, are entered by you. Project, code and engineering checks remain separate.

Review protocol

Transparent planning tools.

Before launchFormula, conversion, boundary-case, content, and responsive interaction review.

After launchReport suspected errors through Contact. Recheck measurements, material assumptions and supplier terms before using an estimate.

Calculator-specific contextFormulas, assumptions and unit behavior are described for each workflow. Review states vary; no general professional approval is claimed. Review dates belong only with documented reviews.
